"Temptations" are Kitty Crack
I'm not talking about the '60's vocal group, although I do love their music to this day! Like this one v v v v v v v v v v v v v
Anyone that is owned by a cat knows that your furry little buddy appears to be hungry every time you walk across a room. Especially if you happen to walk into your kitchen for a drink of water or a cola (beer). It doesn't matter if they just ate breakfast; if you happen to pass through where ever they are and even glance in their direction, you are then bound to have your fuzz-butt baby rubbing against your legs and meowing like he/she hasn't eaten for a month.
And most of us are taken in by this clever cat deception and we, naturally, end up giving him/her/them a treat. With the #1 most popular treat being the "Temptations" line of crunchy cat treats. And it's no wonder your kitties go gaga over these delicious cat snacks. The company that makes these nibbles for cats is the same company that makes Snickers bars, Dove chocolate, Milky Way, and Twix! Go figure!
These treats are not really that bad for your feline housemate, unless you go overboard and feed nothing but the snacks all the time. Each little morsel is only about 2 calories. So if you give Fluffy 10 to 15 at a time, and you do this 5 or 6 times a day, chances are little Fluffy might have a weight problem, or not be getting the proper nutrition. Just remember, they are called "treats" for a reason. So while you're racing to the grocery in that little car your mobile mechanic just tricked out for you, maybe you should include some healthier options for cat treats on your shopping list.
Healthier Cat Treat Choices
As you wander the cat food aisle you are bound to get a bit cross-eyed at the overwhelming selection of dry cat foods, wet cat foods, crunchy cat treats, chewy cat treats, stringy cat treats, and more. Especially if you do your pet food shopping in one of the larger chain stores like PetSmart or PetCo. The cat food aisle seems endless as you wander up and down, back and forth, looking for that perfect treat that will please your kitty and give you a warm, happy feeling knowing you are feeding him/her something healthy. That won't ruin their supper, cause diabetes, or give little Tiger the runs.
I'm here for ya! I've put together this little list of healthy cat treats so you know what to add to your shopping list before you leave the house. Because even though I know you want to drive that souped up little speed demon of a car just one more time, I'm trying to save the planet and help you use less gas by getting your cat food and treat shopping done in one trip. Here we go!
Yummy looking, aren't they. Especially the minnows. I guess if you don't want to pay a premium price, you could just go to the bait store and buy fresh minnows. And you don't have to worry about the bones in small fishes hurting your cat. Cats naturally consume the entire animal whether it's fish, mouse, or frog. So real bones won't hurt them. Don't get confused about this bone thing though. NEVER give your cat cooked bones of any kind. They can (and probably will) splinter and cause all sorts of harm.
All of the cat treats I listed above are considered safe for cats (and dogs!) with allergies, be they food allergies or something else. The single ingredient snacks and treats are always the best idea, and no matter where you buy your pet food there is sure to be a choice or two in the cat food aisle. The very best time to find new cat foods and treats is on the weekends. Go to almost any pet store, big box or speciality, and you will more than likely find a brand representative in the store that can answer your questions and (yahoo!) offer you some free samples. Because free is good, especially if you're testing a new cat food or treat!
If you cannot find any of the cat treats and snacks listed above, please shop online at OnlyNaturalPet.com - I included a link in the slide show above to make it easier for you to find them. Unfortunately (for me anyway), I don't make any money when you purchase from this store, so have fun and stock up. They also are know for offering free samples of new pet foods and treats inside their online store.
If any of this information about healthier alternatives in cat treats and snacks has helped you a little bit, please share! Good information should never be kept a secret.
